Placement is where the artwork sits on the garment: chest, back or another area. Ask which placements are available for the specific product.

01

Separate the artwork from the process

Artwork describes the design: its shapes, colours, lettering and detail. Placement and scale describe how that design sits on the garment. The printing method describes how it reaches the material. A picture of an attractive graphic does not establish which method, inks or production settings will be used. Ask for that information for the piece you are considering.

02

Know what to check in a representation

Look for a full-garment view alongside a closer detail. Ask whether the print dimensions change between sizes and how the design is positioned relative to the neckline or seam. Screens and lighting can affect colour appearance. If exact colour matching is important, explain that requirement before anything is agreed and ask how it can be assessed.
